What I've been reading

Disaster : Hurricane Katrina and the failure of Homeland Security by Christopher Cooper and Robert Block.

This is a very well researched and easyflowing read which shows how the situation was distorted by the media at the time and just how badly it was handled by the authorities, and why. It's certainly a good example of how little the US Government was prepared for a real emergency, but also illustrates how people can band together in the worst of circumstances. I recommend it to anyone who has read a lot of doom and gloom about how bad it well get when Peak oil hits. Katrina is often used as an example of people turning against one another, but this book shows what the real situation was, and suggests it wasn't as bad as we were lead to believe at the time.
